Rob Watt Guitarist

Session Guitarist, MD and Backing Tracks Maker

Hey, I’m Rob — a session guitarist, live guitar player and music director based in Cape Town, South Africa. I’ve spent the past 20+ years playing, writing, and recording music that connects with people. I’ve been lucky to live and make music in London UK and Austin, TX, and I’ve been part of Hillsong Worship teams in both Cape Town since 2008 to present (2026), and London in 2015.

I work closely with artists - especially up-and-coming talent - helping shape their sound by writing guitar parts and creating sounds that elevate the song and support the emotion behind it. Whether it's building a demo in the studio or crafting a part that hits just right live, I love the creative process and collaborating to bring music to life. I’m passionate about playing live - there’s nothing like being on stage and feeling the energy in the room.

I’m easy to work with, always prepared, and I bring a grounded, team-player attitude wherever the gig is. I’m also fully tour-ready with a pro live guitar rig that covers a wide range of tones, a Sennheiser wireless IEM system, and a reliable home studio for remote sessions and pre-production.

Gear-wise, I play PRS, Fender, and Guild guitars through a Vox AC30 and PRS Archon 30 amps - however most of the time these days, I'm going stereo DI into FOH from my pedalboard. My sound is a blend of Nashville warmth and modern flexibility.

My go-to guitar is my 1998 PRS CE22. My pedalboard rig is a Quad Cortex with a BigSky MX integrated into the fx loop and via midi, and also the Shure GLXD16+ wireless system. I use Al Claire Spires custom IEMs. If you're looking for someone who’s serious about tone, easy to get along with, and fully invested in making great music - I’d love to be part of your next project.

Current Projects

Studio and Live Guitarist for Carla Conrad
I’m the studio and live guitarist, and a permanent member of Carla Conrad’s band. Carla is a South African singer-songwriter now based in Germany, where she is building her presence across the European music scene through venues, festivals, and live performances. Her music blends indie rock grit, alt-pop shimmer, folk-rock influences, and emotionally honest songwriting, with recent releases including “Beast,” “Forget to Breathe,” “Feast,” “What Are We Afraid Of,” and “Radio Man.”

Carla’s music has gained strong radio and media momentum, with “What Are We Afraid Of” reaching #1 on IFM South Africa, “Second Place” spending eight weeks on the Algoa FM Top 30 and peaking at #6, along with Algoa FM live performances, Jacaranda FM features, and repeated appearances on Expresso Morning Show.

Alongside live performances, I work closely with Carla in the studio, helping arrange songs, shape guitar parts, and develop the musical direction around the songs she has written. We are currently recording remotely from our own home studios, with Carla based in Germany and myself in South Africa, building new music across continents. I’m also planning to join Carla for live shows in Germany over the summer, bringing our studio collaboration into the European live setting.

Our collaboration brings her music to life with atmospheric electric guitar textures, melodic hooks, high-energy indie rock moments, intimate acoustic dynamics, and expansive live arrangements that support the emotion and story behind each song.

Live Guitarist for Chané B
I perform as the live guitarist for Chané B, a South African artist and songwriter building strong momentum across radio and live stages. Her latest single, “Say So” with Liam Cova, has been picked up by stations including KFM, Algoa FM, MFM, Tygerberg 104 FM and UCB, with Chané also appearing in radio interviews around the release.

Our live show is energetic, upbeat and built for connection - blending Chané’s originals with mashups, feel-good covers and dynamic arrangements that work especially well for live music venues, festivals and high-energy event stages. My role is to bring the electric guitar side to life with melodic hooks, rhythmic drive and big stereo tones that help lift the songs and give the show its live-band energy.

Session Work & Music Production
Beyond live performances, I work with unsigned artists to craft guitar parts, record demos, and produce tracks. My services include creating live performance tracks in Ableton Live, complete with cues, clicks, and stems tailored to each artist’s studio recordings. This ensures a seamless transition from studio to stage, enhancing live shows with professional-grade backing tracks.
